Capabilities of Geometric Topology Module in CRACK3D
To simulate crack propagation in a geometrically complex structure, the evolution of structural topology due to crack growth must be identified step by step so that local remeshing will be performed based on information of the new topology. Apparently, the methodology and algorithms developed can also be extended to handle topological change and deformation of boundaries and interfaces in multi-material flow, such as merging and fragmentation.
The module "Geometry & Topology Modification" in CRACK3D utilizes the information of the new crack fronts and crack surfaces to modify the configuration of the structure via Boolean Calculation. After remeshing, the updated finite element model will reflect changes in the geometry and topology of the structure due to crack propagation.
