The University of South Carolina Nuclear Engineering Program offers both MS (thesis), ME (non-thesis), and Ph.D. degrees in nuclear engineering.  More than 50 full-time and part-time students are currently matriculating in the program.  On campus students are engaged in research spanning a wide range of topics from advanced nuclear fuels, cladding, and structural materials, to fuel cycle modeling and reactor design.

All courses are offered both “live” to on campus students as well as on-line to distance education students in the APOGEE program.  For more information, follow the links to the left or contact faculty members listed below, right.

The program also offers a minor in nuclear engineering for undergraduate students seeking specialized courses and education for pursuing a career in the nuclear industry.  See the Academics link at the right for more information.

Energy Panel Discussion – Engineering Week

As part of the 2013 Engineering Week activities a panel discussion on energy was held Thursday, February 21.  Dr. Elwyn Roberts, Visiting Professor in Mechanical Engineering led the panel discussion presenting highlights from his recent whitepaper on energy.  The panel included: Mr. Steve. Byrne (SCANA), Mr. Sumit Ray (Westinghouse), Dr. Bill Summers (SRNL) and Dr. JR Regalbuto (professor and endowed chair, USC).  More than 70 students, faculty, and members of the public were in attendance.  The presentation, discussion and question and answer period lasted more than two and a half hours.

You can read Dr. Roberts’ whitepaper “U.S. Energy: Present State and Future Perspective” at his faculty page http://www.me.sc.edu/fs/roberts.html.

Dr. Elwyn Roberts speaks to a “full house” during Engineering Week.
