The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 22 tenure-track faculty members, six adjunct professors, and two distinguished emeritus. Four faculty members are fellows within their perspective professional organizations, seven are editors or associate editors for journals within their perspective areas, and 11 of the faculty are licensed engineers.

Dr. Morehouse and his students have investigated a broad range of thermodynamic heat engine applications, ranging from space-based fuel cell power systems to ground-coupled heat pumps to phase-change storage systems. Dr. Morehouse has long been associated with solar energy system design and analyses and is currently involved in a conventional HVAC control project and with evaporative system applications in humid climates.
