Is Science Useful? Why or Why not?

We asked this question on a K-12 student survey. Here are some of the children’s responses.

2^nd Graders

Yes	Because it is a little bit easy to me.
Yes	Because we can repair things with science.
Yes	Especially simple machines! Because Mr. Richard told us what they were used for.
Yes	If you had a pulley, you could lift a big rock out of your yard.
Yes	Science is in almost every job.
Yes	We learn like of things like water.
Yes	Yes, because it heps you further in life.

3^rd Graders

No	I know a lot of the things.
Sometimes	It is very hard.
Sometimes	Science is useful when you are into it.
Yes	Because it can teach you a lot about the world and things like earth and moon.
Yes	Because you get to learn more.
Yes	Because you never know if you will grow up and be a teacher that is why science is useful.
Yes	By doing experiements.
Yes	During the day things will remind me of what I learned in Science.
Yes	If you want to be a smart person or a scientist you would have to use science.
Yes	In class.
Yes	It can help you with nature.
Yes	It helps you find out about plants, animals, Earth.
Yes	Like a project.
Yes	Science is a good subject and is very fun. It is useful because it helps me learn.
Yes	Science is useful because if you study an animal you can know what kind of animal it is.

No	I can't remember using it.
No	I don't see how this would help in a future job.
No	Science isn't used as much as other skills in everyday life.
Sometimes	Because sometimes when you are finding something Science will be the answer.
Sometimes	I haven't had to use science that much in everyday life.
Sometimes	I like to do experiments at home sometimes other times it's good for the test.
Sometimes	Like when you watch Jeopordy! Or Who wants to be a millionare they have science questions you can answer.
Sometimes	Sometimes what we've learned helps me understand things that are more difficult.
Sometimes	Sometimes you need to use Math, English and etc, but science is really useful sometimes.

Yes	because when you are in trouble you need to know what to do.
Yes	Because you learn about the earth around you and things you don't know.
