| 2001 CURRICULUM SUMMARY WHAT'S
NEW IN CURRICULUM 2001?
Curriculum 2001 is a major upgrade to the mechanical engineering
undergraduate program. The new features are designed to make the
graduate better prepared to work professionally as a mechanical
engineer. All the changes made are based on the results of the
department’s ongoing program assessment process that includes input from
our students, alumni and their employers. Significant Changes include:
-
EMCH 111 Engineering
Graphics and Visualization has replaced ENGR 102 Intro to Engineering
II.
-
EMCH courses for
Statics (EMCH 200), Dynamics (EMCH 310), Solid Mechanics (EMCH 260),
Thermodynamics (EMCH 290), Fluid Mechanics (EMCH 360) are now
required, replacing old ENGR courses with similar titles.
-
An Ethics Elective is now required.
-
EMCH 377 Manufacturing Processes is now a required course.
-
STAT 509 Statistics for Engineers is now required and is a pre-requisite for EMCH 361.
-
ECON 421 is now required and is a pre-requisite for EMCH 427.
-
To add STAT 509, EMCH 377 and ECON 421 without increasing the number of degree credit hours,
the old Math Elective was removed, the number of EMCH Electives was
reduced from 4 to 3, and EMCH 330 Vibrations (and ENGR 330 Vibrations)
has become an elective course.
-
EMCH 201 Numerical Methods is a new numerical methods course that replaces EMCH 301. The
new EMCH 201 course is a co-requisite with EMCH 200 Statics.
-
Several EMCH courses have been shifted in the 8-semester curriculum plan and their
prerequisites have been adjusted accordingly to maximize the
efficiency of the degree program.
WHICH CURRICULUM SHOULD I USE?
Curriculum 2001 is required for all students who are admitted to the mechanical engineering
program starting in the Fall 2001 semester. Students who started the
program before Fall 2001 can graduate under either the old or new
curriculum. To transfer to the new curriculum, the student must fill out
a special form at Student Services in Swearingen.

To Migrate to Curriculum 2001
If you started
before Fall 2001 and want to migrate to the new curriculum, you can
make the following substitutions. Accepted substitutes must have
been taken either before or during the Fall 2001 semester. |
To Graduate Under the Old Curriculum
If you started
before Fall 2001 and still want to graduate under the old
curriculum, you will find that ENGR courses are no longer offered.
So, you can make the following substitutions.
