Information about Co and Prerequisites

Many of the courses required for the Mechanical Engineering degree have Prerequisites and/or Corequisites. These requirements can be found in the University Bulletin in the catalog description for each course.

It is the student’s responsibility to insure that they have the proper Co and Prerequisites for each course.  The University’s registration computer does not check these requirements and may allow a student to sign up for a course in which they do not meet the Co and Prerequisites. The College’s administration performs random audits of courses during the semester. If a student is found not to have satisfied the course entry requirements they will remove the student from the class. Depending on when this is done, a student may receive a W for the class and will not be eligible for a refund.

If a student wants to take a class that they do not have the Co or Prerequisites for they may petition the department for permission. The form for this is located here. There is no guarantee that the request will be granted.  Some of the factors that go into making the decision are 1) the requirement for which the waiver is being requested 2) the student’s past academic performance 3) reason for the request. Decisions on the petition make take up to two weeks to be rendered.
