Advisement

WHO IS MY ACADEMIC ADVISOR?

Advisors can be found under the  Academics Tab using the Check Registration eligibility button on VIP.

HOW DO I GET ADVISED EACH SEMESTER?

Entering students are advised by the College of Engineering's Student Services in Swearingen.  Continuing students are assigned an advisor from the Mechanical Engineering faculty.  Your advisor can help you with scheduling courses, selecting electives, and career planning.  You meet with your advisor during the pre-registration period every semester.  The advisement procedure should follow these steps:

A. Go to one of the computer labs and run the program ME-Advisor. The program is run from the ME web page, in the undergraduate section, click on the link Advising Program or go directly to http://129.252.23.40/meadvisorsetup/  (NOTE: you must be logged onto you engineering account to run the program, it will not work from the internet unless you are logged on) Directions for ME-Advisor can be found at http://www.me.sc.edu/bs/Directions.htm

B. Verify the suggested courses by looking at the curriculum guides

a.       For students who started before Aug. 2009 view ). [ Current Curriculum | Current Curriculum by Semester | Current Prerequisite Flowchart]

b.      For students who started on or after Aug 2009 view [2009+ Curriculum by Semester|2009+Prerequisite Flowchart]

C. Consult the Registrar's Course Listings and determine which the courses you want to take next semester.  (To find out more about a course, go to the course information web page.)

D. Verify that you have satisfied all prerequisites.

E.  If need be, modify the courses suggested by ME-Advisor by rerunning ME-Advisor program and making the desired changes.

F. Make a list of the courses you want to take, and  a list of questions and/or discussion items for your advisor.
