Advisement

WHO IS MY ACADEMIC ADVISOR?

Advisors can be found under the  Academics Tab using the Check Registration eligibility button on VIP.

HOW DO I GET ADVISED EACH SEMESTER?

Entering students are advised by the College of Engineering's Student Services in Swearingen.  Continuing students are assigned an advisor from the Mechanical Engineering faculty.  Your advisor can help you with scheduling courses, selecting electives, and career planning.  You meet with your advisor during the pre-registration period every semester.  The advisement procedure should follow these steps:

A. Select your classes.
1.
Print out a copy of the curriculum by semester form or prerequisite flow chart, and on it indicate the courses you have completed or will complete by the end of the semester (we suggest you retain this printout and simply update it each semester). [ Current Curriculum | Current Curriculum by Semester | Current Prerequisite Flowchart (PDF Format)]
2.
Consult the Registrar's Course Listings and determine which courses you want to take next semester.  (To find out more about a course, go to the course information web page.)
3.
Verify that you have satisfied all prerequisites.
4.
Make a list of the courses you want to take, and  list of questions and/or discussion items for your advisor.
B. Meet with your advisor.
1.
Schedule an appointment.  An appointment list should be posted on your advisor's door.
2.
Meet your advisor at the scheduled time.  Please bring your copy of the curriculum by semester form or prerequisite flowchart.  Your advisor will have your official "Advisement Form."
3.
Complete the Advisement Form and get your advisor's signature.
C. Submit the completed Advisement Form to Engineering Student Services in Swearingen.
