National Academy for Nuclear Training (NANT)
Scholarship for 2005-2006 academic year. NANT
Scholarships are awarded by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations
(INPO) to engineering students who demonstrate outstanding academic
achievements and show an interest in pursuing careers in the nuclear
industry.

International Society member by USC chapter
December 16, 2005 - Dr. Abdel Bayoumi,
was selected by the local chapter of the Golden Key International
Society to become an honorary member. Golden Key is an
international academic honor society that recognizes and encourages

characterization of single-walled carbon nanotube reinforced epoxy
composites," authored by Dr. Xiaodong Li, Hongsheng Gao, Wally
Scrivens, Dongling Fei, Xiaoyou Xu, Dr. Michael Sutton,
Dr. Tony
Reynolds, and Michael Myrick was sited as one of the 100 most popular
papers of 2004. The award was based on the high number of
downloads that the article received since publication in August, 2004.

April 29, 2005 - Dr. Victor Giurgiutiu and
Dr. Jed Lyons have been recommended by
President Sorensen to be promoted to the
rank of full professor. Please join us in congratulating them on their
promotions.
Dr. Jeff Darabi named recipient of 2005-2006
ASHRAE Investigator Award
Dr. Jeff Darabi has been chosen to receive the 2005-2006 ASHRAE
Investigator Award. The selection of the recipient is based on
the nominee's ability and potential as a researcher, as evidenced by
the nominee's achievements to date, particularly in the quality of
research and publications. The purpose of the award is to
enhance the academic careers of recent PhD graduates by providing
support for research activities. This award gives a base grant
of $15,000 for the first year with an additional match of $15,000 on a
dollar per dollar basis with an industrial partner which could total
$45,000 for the first year. This award can be renewed for up to
three years.

NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center awarded for
the Friction Stir Processing Research Center under
Dr. Tony Reynolds.
