University of South Carolina Undergraduate Students Graduate Students APOGEE/Distance Ed Nuclear Engineering

APOGEE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Note:  The APOGEE option is available only to those who physically reside in the USA.

OBJECTIVES
(1) To allow student, with advice from his/her faculty advisor, to create a program of study suitable to his/her needs and still ensure that the student has a minimum education in the traditional mechanical engineering areas, (2) to allow student some depth in his/her chosen area and (3) to allow some flexibility in developing alternative plans for in-depth study in new/emerging areas.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 1 course from Math
  • 1 course from Design/Manufacturing or Dynamics/Controls
  • 1 Heat/Thermo or Fluids
  • 1 Solids or Materials

The student must select a focus area and take at least 3 courses from that area (this may include 1 that satisfies the above). If an MS student research area does not require depth in one of the traditional areas shown above, the student, with approval from his/her advisor and graduate committee, may select 3 related courses which would constitute a focus area. Approval must be gained before any classes are completed in the focus area course work.

OTHER

All remaining work must be taken from an approved list of courses. All courses in engineering at 500 level or better and Math at 700 level or better are approved. Other courses will be added as students and faculty petition the graduate committee to add courses.

Transfer courses will not be applied to the above.

NOTE

  • It is expected that the faculty will select at least one course (and preferably two) from each area that will be offered on a year-by-year basis.
  • Graduate school requires 50% of all courses on plan of study to be at 700+ level.
  • Graduate school requires 30 hrs for master. For MS 6 hrs may be thesis prep.
