Grant
Dr.
Guiren
Wang
was

recipient

"STARTUP
GRANT IN
MIXING"
research
award
from the
North
American
Mixing
Forum (NAMF)
announced
at the
November
2009
AIChE
meeting
in
Nashville,
TN. NAMF
is
affiliated
with the
American
Institute
of
Chemical
Engineers.
The
biennial
grant is
awarded
to only
one
tenure-track,
yet
untenured,
faculty
member
at a
Ph.D.
granting
institution
in
entire
North
America.

Unisted
States
A team
of
students
from the
Mechanical
Engineering
Department,
Columbia
represented
the
University
of South
Carolina
with the
first
ever
invited
display
at the
Hilton
Head
Concours
d'Elegance,
Oct. 30,
Nov. 1,
2009.

James
and
Bronsen
Harding,
along
with
advisor
Ken
Reifsnider
and
SOFC
Center
Lab
Manager
Lee
Woolley,
presented
the
scooter
car that
has been
converted
to run
on
hydrogen.

Prof.
Bayoumi
received
research
awards
totaling
$976,500
in the
general
area of
Condition-Based
Maintenance
(CBM).
The
awards
include
the
development
of the
new
generation
of
Health
Monitoring
Systems
($757,500,
to
include
Lubrication
and Oil
Analysis
($125,000)
as a
means of
sensing,
and to
carry-out
more
Aircraft
component
testing
($94,000).
All the
three
tasks
are DOD
grants
through
the
South
Carolina
Army
National
Guard.
Professor
Mike Sutton
and his
group
received an
AFOSR grant
for their
project
entitled
"Modeling,
Simulation
and Sensing
of
Progressive
Damage at
Multiple
Scales for
Performance
Prognosis in
Metallic
Composite
Aero
Structures."
This is a
three year
grant for
$750,000
(Dr. Sutton
is PI. Co-PI's
are: Dr.
Deng, Dr.
Reifsnider,
Dr. Xue and
Dr. Lucy
Yu.)
