2011 NRC Rankings for the USC Mechanical Engineering ranked 31st Nationally and 7th in the Southern Region

Prof. Ken Reifsnider has won USC's Highest Research Award: the 2012 Russell Research Award for Science, Mathematics and Engineering.

Prof. Jamil Khan in Mechanical Engineering has been awarded an NRC Grant of $450,000 for "University of South Carolina Nuclear Engineering Faculty Excellence Program".  This is a three year grant and Prof. Travis Knight is the Co-PI.

Prof.  Xiadong (Chris) Li received a grant funded by NSF. The project is entitled " Flexible Core/Shell Nanocable - Carbon Microfiber Hybrid Composite Electrodes for High-Performance Supercapacitors. " and is funded at $ $240,000 for three years.

Prof.  Travis Knight received a grant funded by Oakridge National Lab. The project is entitled "Thermochemical Investigation of U-Ln-O Systems" and is funded at $ $80,000 from one year.

Awards and Recognition

Prof. Guiren Wang was recommended by the President to the USC Board of Trustees for awarding tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate Professor

Prof.  Mike Sutton has been awarded the 2012 Governor's Award for Excellence in Scientific Research (ESR). He is the first member of the CEC community to win the prestigious award.

Prof. Xinyu Huang has been selected as USC Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor for 2012.

Profs.  Xinyu Huang, JK Yang and Lucy Yu won ASPIRE I grants, Prof. Addis Kidane won ASPIRE III grant for Infrastructure Development and Prof. Kevin Huang was a CO-PI for another ASPIRE III grant with the Electron Microscopy Center.

Carey Read, Jr. has been awarded a 2011 U.S. Department of Energy Innovations in Fuel Cycle Research Award for his paper, “Using a Modified CINDER90 Routine in MCNPX 2.6.0 for the Prediction of Helium Production in Minor Actinide Targets.” The funding for this award is through the Office of Nuclear Energy, Fuel Cycle Technologies.
